Thank you for coming to Slimdown for Health.Com Lifestyle and Health Blog!!!

We are busy people these days: work, family, chores, and other responsibilities. We have to go to our jobs, pick up the kids from soccer practice, make dinner, do the laundry, help out with homework, wash the dishes....

We’ve got people calling our names and asking us for our time from when we get up in the morning until we go to bed at night. In light of all this…. Oh Cinderella, how do you have the time to get everything done?

How do busy working moms and dads find the time to make healthy decisions?

Some people work it into their schedules by overlapping tasks. If you’ve got kids, why not play games with them so you can squeeze in some quality time and exercise? Try a game of basketball, a game of jump rope, a family hike, or a walk in the neighborhood. It is considered “exercise” as long as you can keep your heart rate up. Little changes like this can make a big impact on your health.

I can hear some of you now: “But I am healthy. I eat right and I exercise every other day.”

That’s not enough though. Being healthy doesn’t just mean eating right and staying active (though, those two things are extremely important). Overall health means that there is balance among the most important aspects of a person’s life:

1. Mental health

2. Spiritual health

3. Physical health

The Slimdown for Health Challenge can help you on all of these levels. It might take a while to realize but having a healthy lifestyle is something that we should all be doing because it will extend and simplify our lives, improve our quality of life, and help us lead happier and fulfilling lives in general.

So why am I telling you this? Because this is a Slimdown for Health Challenge to you, This Challenge is for you to take BETTER care of yourself and love ones. No matter whom you are…No more excuses…

In fact, now let’s look at those three aspects and see how improving those areas of your life will aid your overall quality of life.

  • Stress level (healthy stress management techniques will help you handle tough situations well and keep your heart running smoothly)
  • Happiness (thinking optimistically will help your mood and that of those around you)

Spirituality means different things to different people but at its core it is defined as something that helps you discover a sense of meaning and purpose in your life, and builds networks with the people around you. Having good spiritual health will aid you in this Challenge by helping you:

  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with loved ones
  • Develop your sense of purpose in life
  • Define your values and goals
  • Live a happy and meaningful existence
  • Be open to what life has to offer to you

On the Slimdown for Health blog, we will give you tips that will help you improve your spirit.

3. Physical health

Becoming physically healthy will help you in all parts of your life including (but not limited to):

  • Reducing your ailments and pains
  • Helping minimize the amount of medication that you take
  • Facilitating a longer life
  • Improving your quality of life
  • Helping you be a good role model to those around you (most importantly, your kids)

By eating right, staying active, and drinking plenty of water you will be lengthening your life span and improving your quality of life. Those three things are like the fountain of youth.” Not only will you feel younger on the inside but you will look younger on the outside. It’s pretty magical.

Challenge your family like you challenge yourself. Having people around you who are eating healthy and staying active will help you on your quest. Your kids and grandkids will love reminding you to keep making healthy decisions. An excellent side effect to this is that you will be passing down these healthy habits to them.

You and your family can share stories and help each other stay on track. You can even have contests. Race your family members to see who can drink an 8 ounce glass of water the fastest. Play “horse” with your kids. Challenge each other to see who can have the most colorful plate at dinnertime. While these little contests won’t seem like much at the time, these wonderful tricks can help you keep a healthy and active lifestyle. It’s a great way to add a little bit more fun to the challenge.

There is no shortcut to being physically healthy. Fad diets and “lose weight fast” pills & schemes are never what they are cut out to be. Fad diets may help you lose weight fast but it’s not going to help you keep that weight off.

Most of those diets are so restrictive that you won’t be able to stick with it for long. In order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and diet, you have to make changes that you can live with for the rest of your life.

That’s where we come in. The Slimdown for Health blog will help you make those small modifications to your lifestyle that will add up to a big transformation in your waistline. We will talk about healthy changes that are manageable like:

  • How drinking more water can help you lose weight, look healthier, and feel better (it’s totally true)
  • How staying active doesn’t necessarily mean that you need a gym membership
  • How your family can help you make these little changes and not even know it (it’s healthy for them and you)

Often, we do things that are harmful to our bodies (smoke, drink too much alcohol, eat unhealthy things, stay sedentary for too long, lack of water, etc.) and we don’t realize exactly how much damage we are actually doing. All of those factors are causing chemical reactions within your body and you may not see those effects until later in your life. Minimize the hurt (damage) by making good decisions now. Stop smoking. Limit your alcohol intake. Eat an apple. Have some grapes instead of that candy bar. The change is up to you.
