Determine Your Self Worth

Self worth is something that relies totally on you. While you may think that other people’s negative feelings and actions toward you make it so you have low self-worth, you are the one that it boils down to. How much you “are worth” depends totally on how you feel about yourself. Self worth is essentially self-esteem.

So how do we raise our sense of self-worth or determine whether we have a good or bad sense of self-worth? Here are a few activities and questions that you can answer that can help you in this quest.

  1. Take a self-esteem inventory: take a sheet of paper and fold it in half. Now on one side write down 10 strengths and on the other write down 10 weaknesses. Use this as a starting off point. Embrace the strengths and use the weaknesses as goals for your future. For example, “How can I be more brave in the future?”
  2. Set realistic expectations for yourself. We are always cutting ourselves down when we don’t reach a goal. However, if you set realistic expectations, there will be less of a chance that you won’t reach that goal.
  3. Embrace your mistakes. Just like with your weaknesses, turn that mistake into a learning experience.
  4. Stop comparing yourself to others. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and none of those lists will ever be the same (at least not if we listed everything – not just 10).
