Prepare Yourself

Stop buying things you don’t need; the best way to avoid impulse buying is to prepare yourself before you go grocery shopping.

  • Makes a List and Stick to It. Plan your meals ahead, list all foods you need for the week including portion size. Don’t linger around the grocery store, which means put your phone away. Being on your phone is distracting and you end up strolling aisles and going places you didn't intend to which prompts you to pick up extra things. Go to the grocery store, get what's on your list and get out.

  • Eat Before You Go Shopping. This prevents buying foods not on your list because you're hungry. Eat a solid meal before doing the grocery.

  • Shop Alone.  Leave your children, husband, or wife, at home. Have no distractions.
